Description

“Together we can master the challenges of living and studying abroad” Class 1: Explore cultural differences and create awareness for the cultural challenges of living and studying in Germany Class 2: Develop strategies and methods for successfully mastering the requirements of studying at TUM (time management, study techniques, etc.) Class 3: Identify and discuss personal challenges that the participants are facing during their day-to-day life at the TUM (loneliness, feeling overwhelmed, being homesick, etc.) Class 4: Take a special look at exam preparation and develop strategies to overcome possible obstacles (time lines, expectations, anxieties, nervousness, procrastination, etc.) The class will have 5 to 8 participants. The class will be highly interactive and will focus on the exchange between the students. Sharing experiences helps to master individual challenges. After each online class, there will be a small homework assignment that will be discussed in the next class. During this course, we analyse your learning patterns, your issues that might keep you from achieveing the results that you are aspiring to. You can discuss with other students under the supervision of a coach how to change your behaviour and to adapt a learning style that helps you to be more successful in your studies. We also want to provide a forum to discuss the specific issues concerning this virtual semester and the challenges that you are facing personally and with regards to your studies.

Prerequisites

This course is a place for self reflection, for perspective change and for personal growth. Participants should have a personal topic related to their studies that they want to work on during the semester. They should also be willing to discuss their topics in a group, to be prepared to work in a group setting and to be open to new ideas and change. We offer this course specifically to address the new learning situation due to the virtual summer semester that we are facing.

Examination

In order to obtain the credits regular attendance is required. At the end of the course, the students will also have to write and submit a paper reflecting on their learnings and experiences during the course. (ECTS: 1)
